Julie Patton

Born and raised in Major, SK, Julie Patton began her journalism career at age 16 where she wrote local news stories for Golden West in Kindersley at West Central Online and hosted an afternoon show on Country 104.9.

Following her high school graduation, Julie relocated to Calgary to pursue a degree in Journalism and Digital Media at Mount Royal University. Throughout her academic journey, she made significant contributions to the Calgary Journal through a diverse range of media, including articles, podcasts, videos, and photo galleries. Her experience extended to serving as an associate producer for the Canadian Mountain Podcast, where she gained valuable expertise in podcasting and Indigenous Knowledge Mobilization. Additionally, she held the position of staff writer for the university’s independent newspaper, The Reflector, and subsequently assumed the role of News Editor, collaborating with students from various disciplines to publish news stories tailored to a university audience. Julie also completed an internship at the Calgary Citizen, focusing on writing stories centered around community members and local initiatives. During her time at the Citizen, she also had the responsibilities of managing the content of two newsletters and all social media accounts.

Julie graduated from Mount Royal University in April, 2024. She now works as a reporter for Golden West in Okotoks and High River.
